casting
Pouring molten metal
Casting is the process of selecting actors for roles in a play, film, or other production: The casting took three months.
A casting director oversees auditions.
In manufacturing, casting means pouring liquid material into a mold to create a shape—metal casting, plaster casting.
A casting is also the object produced by this process.
To cast a fishing line is to throw it; the noun casting can refer to this action or the tackle used.
