palladium
Platinum group member
Palladium is a rare silvery-white metallic element used in catalytic converters, electronics, and jewelry.
It belongs to the platinum group of metals and is valued for its ability to absorb hydrogen and catalyze chemical reactions.
The element takes its name from the asteroid Pallas, discovered around the same time.
Palladium prices have soared due to emissions regulations. (Capitalized Palladium refers to the ancient protective statue.)
