cathode

Electron exit point

A cathode is the negative electrode in an electrical device—the terminal where current flows out.

In a battery, electrons flow from the cathode through an external circuit.

In a cathode ray tube (the technology behind old televisions), electrons stream from the cathode toward a screen.

The opposite terminal is the anode.
