galvanic
Shockingly sudden, energizing
Galvanic describes electrical current produced by chemical action, as in a galvanic cell or battery.
Named after Luigi Galvani, who discovered that electricity could make frog legs twitch, the word extends to reactions that are sudden, startling, or energizing: The announcement had a galvanic effect on the crowd.
In medicine, galvanic refers to direct current used therapeutically.
Something galvanic jolts or stimulates as if by electric shock.
