books
Bound printed works
Books are bound collections of written or printed pages, the primary vessel for storing and transmitting knowledge, stories, and ideas across time.
A book may be a novel, a manual, a religious text, or a record of accounts.
To book something is to reserve it: I booked a table for eight.
The books are financial records: cooking the books, on the books.
To throw the book at someone is to prosecute or punish them severely.
By the book means following rules exactly.
