Torah

Five books, scrolled

Torah is the first five books of the Hebrew Bible—Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy—containing the foundational narratives and laws of Judaism.

The term extends to the physical scroll on which these books are written, read aloud in synagogues.

More broadly, Torah can mean Jewish religious teaching and tradition as a whole: She devoted her life to Torah study.
