first edition
Collector's prized copy
A first edition is the initial published version of a book, before any subsequent printings or revisions.
In book collecting, first editions—especially of works that later became famous—command premium prices: a first edition of The Great Gatsby sold for thousands.
Publishers sometimes distinguish between the first edition (the text) and first printing (the specific run of copies).
