folio

Once-folded book sheet

A folio is a large sheet of paper folded once to make two leaves (four pages) of a book, or a book made of such sheets—the largest standard book format.

Shakespeare's plays were first collected in the First Folio of 1623.

More broadly, folio refers to a page number in a book, or a leaf in a manuscript: The passage appears on folio 47.

In law and accounting, a folio may be a fixed number of words used as a unit for measuring document length.
