Magazines are periodical publications containing articles, photographs, and advertisements, typically printed on glossy paper and issued weekly or monthly: fashion magazines, news magazines.
The word also names the ammunition storage component of a firearm—the detachable container holding cartridges that feed into the chamber.
Both senses share the idea of a storehouse: the Arabic root meant warehouse.
