book
Bound printed pages
A book is a collection of text designed for human hands.
Whether books are printed on paper or read on a tablet, their intended use provides practical limits on their dimensions.
Even if books printed on paper become rare one day, the high frequency of the word book is unlikely to change because it represents a very successful, time-tested method of gathering together information on a topic and collecting it in one place for ease of access.
The noun book is much older than the thing it designates today but the verb book did not come into use until much later.
All of its meanings preserve the idea of recording or registering the name of a person or thing in a book for a purpose: Have you booked accommodations for your vacation yet?
