octavo

Three-fold sheet size

Octavo is a book size created by folding a standard printer's sheet three times, producing eight leaves or sixteen pages.

It was historically the most common format for novels and general books, compact enough to hold comfortably.

The term now loosely describes any book roughly six by nine inches.

Abbreviated 8vo.
