Talmud

Mishnah plus Gemara

The Talmud is the central text of rabbinic Judaism, a vast compilation of Jewish law, ethics, philosophy, customs, and biblical interpretation.

It consists of the Mishnah (oral law codified around 200 CE) and the Gemara (rabbinical commentary and analysis).

Two versions exist: the Babylonian Talmud and the shorter Jerusalem Talmud.

He spent years studying Talmud.

Talmudic study emphasizes debate and interpretation rather than fixed answers.
