Apocrypha

Contested biblical texts

The Apocrypha is a collection of ancient Jewish writings included in some Christian Bibles but not in the Hebrew scriptures or most Protestant canons.

These texts—including Tobit, Judith, and the books of Maccabees—are considered canonical by Catholic and Orthodox churches but relegated to secondary status by others.

The Apocrypha contains stories not found in the standard Old Testament. (Lowercase apocrypha means any writings of doubtful authenticity.)
