Orwell

George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair (1903–1950), an English writer whose novels *Animal Farm* and *Nineteen Eighty-Four* became touchstones for discussions of totalitarianism, propaganda, and political language.

His name spawned the adjective Orwellian, describing surveillance states, doublespeak, and manipulative politics: The ministry's name was almost Orwellian in its irony.
