block
Solid rectangular piece
For something to be called a block it usually has to be compact, solid, and have clear boundaries: a block of granite/cheese/wood.
In American English, a block can also be the distance from one street to the next, or a squarish area bounded by four streets: Be the first one on your block to own it!
Block is used to designate nearly identical sets of the same thing, such as a block of tickets or a block of rooms in a hotel.
The verb block means to prevent passage, progress, or success.
If a tree blocks the view, it intervenes between the seer and the sight.
