dot
Small round spot
A dot is a small round mark or spot.
It appears in punctuation (the period), in digital displays (the dot-matrix printer), and in web addresses where dot-com became synonymous with internet business.
To dot is to mark with dots or to scatter: Farms dotted the landscape.
To dot the i's and cross the t's is to attend to every detail.
On the dot means exactly at the specified time: She arrived at noon on the dot. (Capitalized DOT is the Department of Transportation.)
