precinct

Voting boundary area

A precinct is a defined district or bounded area, typically for administrative purposes.

In American politics, precincts are the smallest voting divisions: Which precinct do you vote in?

Police precincts are both jurisdictional zones and the station houses within them: He was taken to the precinct for questioning.

The plural precincts often means the grounds or environs of a place: the precincts of the cathedral, within the precincts of the university.
