brick
Kiln-hardened building block
A brick is a rectangular block of fired clay used for building walls, paths, and other structures.
Bricks are laid in rows and bonded with mortar, and the term extends to anything brick-shaped: a brick of cheese, a brick of cash.
As slang, brick describes a failed shot in basketball that clangs off the rim, or an electronic device so broken it's useful only as a paperweight.
To brick a phone is to render it unusable.
Calling someone a brick means they're dependable and solid.
