linoleum

Retro floor covering

Linoleum is a durable floor covering made from solidified linseed oil mixed with cork or wood flour on a canvas backing.

Once ubiquitous in kitchens and bathrooms, it has largely been replaced by vinyl flooring, though the two are often confused.

The word is sometimes shortened to lino: We ripped up the old lino and found hardwood underneath.
