rectangle

Four right angles

A rectangle is a four-sided shape with four right angles.

The opposite sides are equal and parallel.

Squares are technically rectangles, but in everyday use rectangle implies a shape longer in one direction than the other: a rectangle of light fell through the doorway.

The word appears in contexts from geometry class to describing any oblong shape.
