screen

Mesh blocks bugs

Our modern age is dominated by the use of screen to refer to a surface on which an image is projected (television screen, cell phone screen), but there are many other kinds of screens, most of them serving protective or decorative purposes.

Themes common to these screens are roughly rectangular shape (cinema screen) and portability (folding screen). Verb uses of screen take their cues from the noun. To screen a film is to show it. To screen something from view is to hide it behind a screen.
