steel
Girder beam material
Steel (uncountable noun, and the most frequent use) is a hard metal made mostly of iron with small amounts of other elements that bring desirable qualities.
As a countable noun, steel denotes a number of different tools and instruments made from the substance, such as a rod for sharpening knives.
The infrequent verb steel sometimes means to treat or coat with steel, but is used reflexively to mean something like fortify or strengthen: she steeled herself against the onslaught of criticism.
