cordon
Restrictive human chain
A cordon is a line or ring of people, typically police or soldiers, positioned to prevent access to or from an area.
The term extends to any barrier or boundary that controls movement: Police set up a cordon around the crime scene.
To cordon off an area is to establish such a barrier.
In cooking, cordon bleu refers to a dish of meat wrapped around cheese and ham, or more broadly to food preparation of the highest standard—literally "blue ribbon" in French.
