World War I

Archduke's assassination aftermath

World War I was the global military conflict of 1914–1918, fought primarily between the Allied Powers (including Britain, France, Russia, and later the United States) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire).

The war introduced trench warfare, chemical weapons, and industrial-scale casualties, killing roughly 20 million people.

It reshaped European borders, ended several empires, and set conditions for World War II.

Also called the First World War, the Great War, or the War to End All Wars.
