Dreadnought

All-big-gun warship

A dreadnought is a type of battleship that dominated naval warfare in the early twentieth century, named after HMS Dreadnought (1906), whose revolutionary design—all big guns and steam turbines—made earlier battleships obsolete overnight.

The term now applies to anything formidable or fearsome.

A dreadnought guitar has an oversized body producing powerful bass and volume: He plays a Martin dreadnought.
