Armistice Day

WWI peace commemoration

Armistice Day commemorates the end of World War I, which concluded with an armistice signed on November 11, 1918, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

The day is observed in many countries, though in the United States it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all military veterans.

In Britain and Commonwealth nations, it remains closely tied to remembrance of war dead, marked by red poppies and moments of silence.
