Yugoslav Wars

Balkans breakup conflicts

The Yugoslav Wars were a series of ethnic conflicts in the 1990s that accompanied the breakup of Yugoslavia into independent states.

Fighting between Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, and other groups produced mass atrocities, ethnic cleansing, and Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II.

The wars included conflicts in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo, ending with NATO intervention and international tribunals for war crimes.
