age

How long lived

Age is a noun that designates a length of time in which something existed or flourished: the age of dinosaurs, the age of steam engines.

The age of a person or object is how old they are in years: At what age did you begin to date?

If the unit is not years, it is usually specified: Babies ages newborn to 18 months. Middle age is a vague term applied to people from about 45 to 65 years old.

Age or ages can also mean a very long time: We haven’t been back there for ages. As a verb, age refers to allowing something to reach maturity: I don’t think this beef was aged properly.

When a person or something else ages, they get older.
