veterans
Those who served
Veterans are people who have served in the military, especially those who have seen combat or completed a term of service: a veterans' hospital, Veterans Day.
The word extends to anyone with long experience in a field: a veteran journalist, a veteran of three presidential campaigns.
As an adjective, veteran means experienced or long-serving: a veteran cop.
