Russia

Spans two continents

Russia is the world's largest country by area, spanning Eastern Europe and northern Asia.

It was the core of the Soviet Union (1922–1991) and before that the Russian Empire.

In contemporary usage, Russia often appears in contexts of geopolitics, energy resources, and international tensions: Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Russian gas exports. (Imperial Russia refers specifically to the pre-revolutionary Russian Empire.)
