Sarajevo
Herzegovina's shared capital
Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated in a valley along the Miljacka River.
The city is historically associated with two pivotal events: the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which sparked World War I, and the brutal 1992–1996 siege during the Bosnian War, the longest siege of a capital city in modern warfare.
The Sarajevo assassination changed the course of history.
