League of Nations
Geneva-based international organization
The League of Nations was an international organization established after World War I to maintain peace and prevent future wars through collective security and diplomacy.
Founded in 1920 and headquartered in Geneva, it represented the first major attempt at global governance.
The League failed to prevent World War II—undermined by the absence of the United States, which never joined, and by its inability to stop aggression by Japan, Italy, and Germany.
It dissolved in 1946, succeeded by the United Nations.
