Marne
Seine's major tributary
Marne is a river in northeastern France, a tributary of the Seine.
The name is most familiar from two World War I battles—the First Battle of the Marne (1914), where French and British forces halted the German advance on Paris, and the Second Battle of the Marne (1918), a turning point that led to Allied victory.
The Marne saved Paris.
