machine guns
Belt-fed automatic firearms
Machine guns are automatic firearms that fire continuously while the trigger is held, feeding ammunition from a belt or magazine.
They range from portable weapons carried by infantry to heavy mounted guns on vehicles and aircraft.
The term covers both military weapons and, loosely, any rapid-fire automatic gun.
To machine-gun is to attack with such weapons: The planes machine-gunned the convoy.
