elevator
Building floor connector
An elevator is a platform or compartment that moves vertically to transport people or goods between floors of a building.
The British term is lift.
Elevator also names various mechanical devices that raise things: a grain elevator stores and moves grain; a small flap on an airplane's tail controls pitch.
To give someone an elevator pitch is to deliver a brief persuasive summary—short enough for an elevator ride.
