rotor

Turbine's spinning part

A rotor is the rotating part of a machine, distinguished from the stationary part (the stator).

In helicopters, the rotor is the assembly of spinning blades that provides lift.

In engines, generators, and turbines, rotors spin to convert or transfer energy.

The word also appears in meteorology for a turbulent horizontal vortex that forms downwind of mountains.
