frock

Loose outer garment

A frock is a woman's or girl's dress, now somewhat old-fashioned in everyday speech but common in fashion contexts: a party frock, a cotton frock.

Historically, a frock was also a loose outer garment worn by workers or monks.

To frock a priest is to invest them with clerical office; to defrock is to remove them from it.
