scripting
Composing automated instructions
Scripting is the act of writing scripts, whether for film, theater, or computing.
In entertainment, scripting means preparing dialogue and stage directions for performers.
In computing, scripting refers to writing short programs—scripts—that automate tasks or control other software; languages like Python and JavaScript are often called scripting languages.
The word also describes planning something so thoroughly it feels rehearsed: Their responses seemed scripting rather than spontaneous.
If something goes off script, it deviates from what was planned.
