Ongoing service access
A subscription is an arrangement to receive something regularly in exchange for payment: a subscription to a magazine, a streaming service, a meal kit.
The model has spread from periodicals to software, where you pay monthly rather than buying outright.
To subscribe is to sign up for such an arrangement, or more broadly, to agree with a belief or position: I don't subscribe to that theory.
A subscriber is anyone who subscribes.
