task
Work to complete
A task is a piece of work to be done—something assigned or undertaken: I have a few tasks to complete before lunch.
Tasks are typically discrete and finite, smaller than projects but more substantial than errands.
To task someone is to assign them work, often with a sense of burden: She was tasked with organizing the event.
To take someone to task is to criticize or reprimand them.
