debugging

Finding program errors

Debugging is the process of finding and fixing errors in computer code or other systems.

The term comes from early computing, when an actual moth trapped in a relay caused a malfunction.

Now it applies broadly: I spent three hours debugging the script.

By extension, debugging can mean troubleshooting any complex problem: We're still debugging the new workflow.
