pacing
Restless back-and-forth
Pacing is the speed or rhythm at which something unfolds.
In narrative—film, fiction, theater—pacing determines how quickly events progress and tension builds: The movie's pacing dragged in the second act.
In performance, pacing governs delivery: a comedian's pacing affects when laughs land.
Pacing also means walking back and forth, often from anxiety or restlessness: He was pacing the hallway, waiting for news.
