characters
Letters or personas
Characters are the people, animals, or figures that populate stories, plays, films, and games—the cast of a narrative.
The word extends to distinctive individuals in real life: He's quite a character.
Character also means the qualities that define someone's nature—moral fiber, integrity, personality: a person of good character, character assassination.
Letters, numerals, and symbols in writing systems are characters: The password must contain eight characters.
A reference attesting to someone's reputation is a character reference.
