mizzen
Third mast back
Mizzen refers to the mast, sail, or rigging nearest the stern on a ship with multiple masts.
On a three-masted vessel, it's the rear mast; on a two-masted ketch or yawl, it's the shorter aft mast.
The term appears in compounds: mizzenmast, mizzen sail, mizzen topsail.
The storm tore the mizzen to shreds.
