luff
Turn toward wind
Luff is a sailing term for the forward edge of a sail—the part closest to the mast or forestay.
As a verb, to luff is to steer a boat toward the wind, causing the sails to flap or lose power: She luffed up to slow the boat.
A sail that flutters loosely is luffing, often signaling the need to adjust course or trim.
