running
Continuous, like water
Running is moving rapidly on foot, faster than walking, with both feet briefly leaving the ground between strides.
The word extends to anything continuous or ongoing: a running commentary, running water, a running total.
A machine that's running is operating.
To be in the running is to have a chance at winning; out of the running means eliminated.
Running also describes consecutive occurrences: three days running.
As a noun, running is the activity itself or the management of something: the running of a business.
