square
Four equal sides
The archetypal square, a rectangle with all sides equal, influences the many other meanings of the word.
One of the most common is to designate a public space that is roughly square, bounded by four streets: Hanover Square.
Square has frequent use as an adjective, where it usually denotes the quality of having a right angle, or a measurement arising from a space with the same length on each of four sides (a square mile).
In math, a square is the result of multiplying a number by itself.
When you square a number, you raise it to the power of two to arrive at its square.
