Gulf of Mexico
Caribbean's northern neighbor
The Gulf of Mexico is a large body of water bordered by the southeastern United States, Mexico, and Cuba.
It connects to the Atlantic Ocean through the Florida Straits and to the Caribbean Sea through the Yucatán Channel.
The Gulf is significant for shipping, fishing, and offshore oil drilling: Hurricane season brings anxiety to Gulf of Mexico coastal communities.
