regions
Areas on maps
Regions are areas distinguished from surrounding territory by particular characteristics—geography, climate, politics, or culture.
The Midwest region shares agricultural identity; wine regions share growing conditions.
A region of the body is a general area: the abdominal region.
Regions can be administrative divisions or simply zones with common features: mountainous regions, conflict regions.
