Alabama
First state alphabetically
Alabama is a state in the southeastern United States, bordered by Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi.
It played a central role in both the Confederacy and the civil rights movement a century later: the march from Selma to Montgomery, the Birmingham church bombing.
The Alabama claims were a diplomatic dispute over British-built Confederate warships.
In everyday speech, Alabama may simply locate someone or something: He's from Alabama, Alabama football.
